5G iPhone is not due until 2020
June 19, 2019
It seems that the definitive implementation of 5G is becoming a utopia. As operators are cautious in showing their next movements for the deployment of 5G, thus avoiding giving clues to their competitors, some manufacturers like Apple, are also having problems with their 5G iPhone.
This post is about ...
Apple’s issue with its 5G iPhone
It seems that Cupertino had problems when reaching agreements with two of their main providers, Qualcomm and Intel. This fact left the company without 5G modems for their telephones in 2019.
According to some of the most reliable analysts in the market, Apple may not launch its 5G iPhone until the end of 2020.
Vodafone launches 5G in 15 major Spanish cities
It is clear that Vodafone is the operator which is the most committed to the implementation of 5G in Spain. The first cities that will have a 50% of Vodafone’s 5G coverage are:
Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Málaga, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Vitoria, San Sebastián, Coruña, Vigo, Gijón, Pamplona, Logroño and Santander.
Uses of 5G: Orange makes a holographic call using 5G
In the 5G Global Event held in Valencia, Orange made a successful holographic call using 5G. Its quality and the lack of latency and outages were surprising.

In the other hand, Orange announced that they will launch their 5G network, which is now under tests, in 2020. This means that, according to the operator, 5G technology is still at a very early stage, and its implementation will be conditioned by the demand.
Telefónica will implement its 5G network when demand increases
In spite of having carried out pilot tests, Telefónica states that 5G has nothing to offer with respect to 4G, that there are little applications and that the offer of smartphones is very limited. That’s why they intend to fully implement their 5G in 2021.
So… is it worth to buy a 5G phone?
It is a very subjective opinion and depends on the needs of each person. In fact, the correct question would be if a 5G mobile is needed. According to what users say in different surveys, the 4G technology is enough to access contents, to surf the Internet and to carry out common tasks with their mobile phones. Moreover, if you don’t live in one of those 15 Spanish cities with 50% of 5G coverage, you don’t have that operator and you don’t travel a lot… The answer seems obvious.
5G and its vicious circle
This popular expression may perfectly define the current situation: without a 5G network with such technology and applications taking advantage of its speed, users will never see and ask for the benefits of 5G, and if users cannot test and enjoy these benefits, the demand of this network and its compatible devices will never exist.
