Vodafone’s 4G and 5G networks will consume less mobile battery.
Just before the start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022, Vodafone announced that they are developing, and already in the testing stage, a technology that will allow mobile devices, and other devices like smartwatches, connected to their network to save battery.

What consumes more battery in a mobile?
Although the screen, processor and other components of mobiles are the ones that consume the most battery, there are other components such as the modem that so do it, and in this sense, the operation of the networks has a major influence.
Searching for coverage and exchanging data through mobile networks consume lots of battery power. Thus, Vodafone tries to produce an important saving of battery. According to their tests, in some cases, they have reduced consumption by up to 22%.
How to save the battery from the network?
Actually, it is simple. The operator states that they have created an API that can customise the connection to the network depending on the device connected.
In other words, the network connection parameters change depending on the device from which the connection is made. For example, when connecting to a mobile phone or a smartwatch, some functions may be occasionally disconnected whenever they are not necessary.
To say it more colloquially, it makes ‘on-demand connections’ depending on the device.
When can we save the battery from the 4G or 5G networks?
As mentioned above, despite being in the testing phase, Vodafone has not confirmed the date on which this new technology will be available for their 4G or 5G networks, although it is speculated that it could be operational by the end of this year.
